Experience the heart of Living Maya culture with this immersive culinary and coffee journey in Oxmul Kah, San Antonio Village. Guided by local Maya women, you’ll step inside a traditional kitchen to learn time-honored cooking techniques passed down through generations, now blended with the modern touches of village life. Grind fresh corn, shape handmade tortillas, cook over a fogón fire hearth, and prepare authentic dishes using homegrown ingredients—all while hearing stories that bring Maya heritage to life. This hands-on experience includes a full tamale-making class for all ages, where you’ll shell corn, learn nixtamalization, grind masa, craft tortillas, prepare tamales, and enjoy a bonus dish: delicious handmade salbutes.
Your journey continues with a visit to the Mesh Family’s organic coffee farm, where—against all odds—a thriving backyard plantation produces rich, shade-grown Maya coffee. Walk the grounds, learn how the coffee fruits are harvested by hand, sun-dried, shelled, roasted, ground, and packaged right in the village, and discover the deep cultural connection between coffee and the Maya people. End your experience with a fresh brew, savoring flavors crafted directly from tree to cup.
