We leave town at 6:00am and drive to Black Rock Lodge. This eco-lodge overlooks the Macal River Valley with gigantic limestone cliffs as backdrop. While having breakfast from the palapa, enjoy as Collared Araçaris, Yellow-winged Tanagers and Black-headed Saltators feast on the papaya and bananas on the feeder below.  Down beside the river, we can search for Amazon and Green Kingfishers as well as Russet-naped Wood-Rails. Above us, the open sky between the valley can offer Black Hawk-Eagle as well as Ornate Hawk-Eagle. One of the limestone cliffs is home to the critically-endangered Orange-breasted Falcon. We’ll come back to the palapa and have a hearty lunch under its cool shade. After lunch, you can take a refreshing dip in the cool waters of the Macal River, or canoe nearby. On our way out to town, we will be birding slowly along the forested road, orange orchards and cattle pastures for several species such as Hook-billed Kite, Blue Bunting, Double-toothed Kite, Fork-tailed Flycatcher and Tody Motmot.
